AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A federal magistrate refused to appoint appellate attorneys for an Amarillo mother and daughter convicted in a 1995 murder-for-hire scheme.
The Amarillo Globe-News reports Saturday that Chyann Bratcher and her mother, Brenda Robinson Fine, asked for the attorneys to pursue claims they had ineffective counsel in their murder trial. They were convicted of murder in 1995.
The women argued a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court decision pertaining to an Arizona man convicted of sexual assault with a minor applied to their case as well.
