AUSTIN – Democratic state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, who is running for lieutenant governor, is coming to Amarillo on Saturday evening, a visit expected to energize West Texas Democrats and make it clear that the party is not conceding the reddest region in the state to Republicans.
The San Antonio lawmaker, who has served in the Legislature for 23 years, the last 14 in the Senate, said she is looking forward to her visit.
“I am asking the people of Texas to hire me as their next lieutenant governor,” Van de Putte said in a statement.
