Marie Patterson never thought she’d end up homeless.
But then again, not many people do.
Patterson admits she and her husband, J.P., were once among the majority of those who take having a home for granted — until they found themselves without one. When their car broke down shortly after they moved to Lubbock, Patterson was suddenly without a way to get to work — or earn a paycheck to rent an apartment.
The weeks since then have not been easy.
“Being homeless wears you down,” Patterson said. “It tires you, mentally and physically.”
