PLAINVIEW — The most compelling district baseball race on the South Plains this season offered one heck of a finale.
Stephen Smith struck out 11 in a complete-game effort, and Hunter Douglas’ two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh helped lift Frenship on Saturday to a 2-1 victory against Plainview and the District 4-4A championship.
“Our guys executed when it mattered most,” Frenship coach Chad Reynolds said, “and that’s what I’m most proud of. We didn’t have anything going all day, and we finally broke through in the last inning. It showed a lot about our guys.”
