Texas Tech distance runner Kennedy Kithuka was named on Monday the Mountain Region Male Track Athlete of the Year by the United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kithuka, who ran at Wayland Baptist before coming to Tech, won the Big 12 Indoor Championships in the 3,000 and 5,000, and he was crowned the NCAA cross country champion in the fall.
Kithuka has gone unbeaten in five individual races this season while breaking four school records. He ranks No. 1 nationally in the 5,000-metere run and No. 4 in the 3,000.
