Today is San Jacinto Day, a glorious day in Texas history. Texas declared independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836, but freedom wasn’t secured until 50 days later, at the Battle of San Jacinto. Sam Houston’s troops, stirred by fury of recent massacres, shouted “Remember the Alamo” and “Remember Goliad” as they defeated an army almost twice their size.
