Juan Lujan, 90, and Don Miller, 92, were both 17 years old when they joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. They were stationed in different states, at different times but on Saturday they and other veterans of the CCC were brought together at Palo Duro State Park to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the CCC.
Lujan had just graduated from high school in May of 1940 and was inducted into the CCC on the first of June.
“There was no work at all. A welfare lady had been talking to my mother. She told her about the CCC. As soon as I graduated I was ready to go,” Lujan said.
