AUSTIN – Distracted driving is becoming more worrisome for state officials.
A new report the Texas Department of Transportation released Wednesday shows 459 people died in Texas last year in accidents caused by distracted drivers, and the total number of collisions caused by inattentive motorists increased by 4 percent compared to the previous year.
“The statistics are sobering,” TxDOT deputy executive director John Barton said in a statement. “One in five traffic crashes in Texas is caused by a distracted driver.
