Rare Texas map sells at auction for $149K
DALLAS — A rare 165-year-old map of Texas that’s been in the same family for generations has sold for $149,000.
Officials with Dallas-based Heritage Auctions said the 1849 document was sold Saturday to a buyer who does not wish to be publicly identified.
The item is considered the first official map of Texas after it became a state in 1845. The lithograph was signed by Jacob De Cordova, a land agent who commissioned an employee of the Texas General Land Office to create the map.
