Before the season, Texas Tech head baseball coach Tim Tadlock touted the amount of competition for playing time at most every spot on the field during preseason practices.
One area that didn’t get as much attention, however, was a shortstop, where junior two-year starter Tim Proudfoot was entrenched and backed up by senior third baseman Jake Barrios.
Yet, Friday’s series opener against Oral Roberts required a new shortstop as Proudfoot is out indefinitely with a left shoulder injury, and Tadlock did not want to affect two positions by moving Barrios over.
