As nations raced to be the first to leave footprints on the surface of the moon, a national association formed to educate the masses about the world around them.
Now celebrating its 25th birthday, the Lubbock Science Spectrum was created as a result of that initiative.
“(The Association of Science Technology Centers) was centered a little bit around the interests of that time and the space race, and of course feeling that science was important to understand,” said Sandy Henry, executive director and a founding member of the museum.
