AUSTIN (AP) — Democrats from across Central Texas are helping Celia Israel, the party’s candidate in a tiny special election for an open seat in the state House of Representatives. Welcoming the volunteers was Jeremy Bird, the former national field organizer for President Barrack Obama.
Bird is one of the founders of Battleground Texas, a group dedicated to making the Republican-stronghold competitive for Democrats. Israel’s race gave Battleground Texas a chance to test how they plan to support Democrats ahead of the general election.
