Rangel: What's the future of big money in Texas politics?

AUSTIN — Some big money is missing in Texas politics.

Before he died in mid-April, Houston homebuilder Bob Perry wrote 10 checks for a total of $111,250, according to Texas Ethics Commission records. For the wealthy businessman, this was the equivalent of pocket change because he was the biggest political donor in Texas, at least in modern history, and one of the biggest in the nation.

However, the 10 checks he wrote between Feb. 6 and March 9 could well be the last political donations from the Perry family or from Perry Homes, the company he founded in 1968.
