Lubbock High School’s nine-man team of computer programming students took first place in the national Zero Robotics competition using robots on the International Space Station to simulate the deflection of a comet headed for earth.
The results came in just before 11 a.m. today.
The team of LHS juniors was ecstatic as they stood in line for lunch at Massachusetts Institute of Technology after learning the results.
“It feels amazing,” Ross Raedeke, a junior, said in a phone interview. “We’re still kind of in shock here. It’s fantastic.”
