About 9:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, Lubbock authorities were put on high alert when someone called police dispatchers claiming an inmate had a gun inside the Lubbock County jail.
Officials from the Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office investigated the claim and determined quickly that it was a hoax.
Dispatchers said the call was made from inside the jail visitation area.
Sheriff Kelly Rowe said authorities are trying to verify who made the call.
