Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst ordered Texas senators on Wednesday to review safety regulations and emergency response procedures in the aftermath of the fertilizer plant explosion in West.
The Republican presides over the state Senate and called on the Agriculture, Rural Affairs and Homeland Security Committee to study how plants like the one in West are insured and regulated. Fifteen people died in an the April 17 blast at West Fertilizer that sent debris flying for blocks and forced the demolition of dozens of buildings.
