Tech ex Ward
wins state Open
LEWISVILLE — Former Texas Tech golfer Chris Ward made an eagle chip on the 72nd hole Sunday for a dramatic two-shot victory in the Texas State Open played at the Lakes at Castle Hills. Ward shot rounds of 69, 70, 67 and 68 to finish four rounds at 14 under par.
He joined Ben Crenshaw and Terry Snodgrass as the only golfers to win the Texas Amateur and the Texas State Open. Ward became the first, however, to win those two as well as the Big 12 Conference championship.
Ward chipped in from right of the 18th green.
