Nobody could prune a tree or set a boulder like James Minton.
And when he passed away June 30 in Alta Loma, Calif., those who recalled his talent for landscaping set up an endowed internship to commemorate the way he changed Lubbock.
Louise Underwood said Minton graduated from Texas Tech with an agriculture degree in 1953 before a landscape program had been established.
“He was a genius. He did many beautiful yards here and in Post. Tech classes would come through the yards to teach,” she said.
