Lubbock police on Thursday, June 20, issued a reminder of alternate contact phone numbers for Lubbockites to call after severe weather.
Police urge residents to avoid calling 911 except in emergency situations, Lubbock police Sgt. Jason Lewis said in a news release.
“911 operators are being overwhelmed, receiving up to 1,100 calls in a five-hour period during severe storms which can affect police, fire and EMS response to life-threatening situations,” he said.
