DONNA — A South Texas city is looking to sell part of an international bridge it built after its projected revenue has failed to come through.
The city of Donna took out a $30 million loan to build the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge, which was completed in December 2010. The bridge connects Donna with Rio Bravo in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.
But low traffic combined with Donna’s inability to convince the federal government to build an inspection facility for commercial trucks have created financial turmoil for the city.
